Prescription drug labeling for patients
Food Drug Cosmet Law J 1975 Feb; 30:98-104

Abstract:

A compendium of drug reactions and interactions is suggested as one solution to the problem of adverse reactions arising from the use of prescription medications. The public health and economic effects of these adverse reactions are discussed. An 11 topic outline of the contents of a drug reaction compendium for the education of health professionals is delineated. Also, it is suggested that the public be informed via an advertising campaign of the seriousness of the problem and new prescription drug labeling should be given to the patient. This labeling should include the directions to the patient and generic name of the drug, a warning statement on the possible adverse effect of drugs in general, and an accurate list of the drugs and dietary components that should not be ingested while the patient is on the medication.
