Drugs in dentistry
Medical Marketing and Media 1975 Dec; 10:13-16

Abstract:

The number of new prescriptions in the U. S. attributable to dentists rose from 9 million in 1962 to 14 million in 1968 to 32 million in 1974. A recent American Dental Association national survey of drug use by dentists reported the following: approximately 92% said they administered some drugs to patients at their offices; approximately 81% dispensed drug products to patients for home use; and approximately 79% reported that they recommended drug products to their patients for home use. When asked to evaluate their sources of information about drug products they prescribe or recommend, the following responses were noted: published articles or editorial matter were most influential; and advertisements in dental publications were of great importance to a substantial number of respondents.
