Wechsler J.
Managed care and pharmaceutical costs
Pharmaceutical Executive 1998 Nov; 18:18, 20-22

Abstract:

Increases in U.S. health care spending, a trend attributed to a major boost in outlays for prescription medications, are discussed in relation to managed care, U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) policies, and direct-to-consumer advertising that encourages unneeded spending on medications. The rising importance of pharmacy benefit management companies in determining pharmaceutical prescribing is also discussed in terms of FDA regulations.
