Abstract:

Rising drug costs and spending in the United States, the need to provide elderly patients with increased access to prescription drugs, and the establishment of a limited or essential list of medicines as a means of extending access to drugs while containing costs are discussed, including the benefits of such an approach and barriers to implementation.
