Abstract:
Global pharmaceutical sales grew 5 percent in the 12 months to August in leading markets, the same rate as recorded a month earlier, healthcare information company IMS Health said on Thursday.
Sales through retail pharmacies in 13 leading markets, which account for around two-thirds of the world market, totalled $379.3 billion in the period.
Sales in the top five European markets grew 4 percent at constant exchange rates, the same as a month earlier. North American sales increased 6 percent — one percentage point more than a month before — while Japanese growth dipped one point to 2 percent.
The largest drug class worldwide in the year to August remained cholesterol-lowering medicines, which sold $30 billion and showed a growth rate of 7.9 percent.
