Abstract:

Pfizer Inc. after Wednesday’s closing bell said results of a new analysis showed that patients who have heart disease and chronic kidney disease who took 80 mg Lipitor tablets reduced their risk of heart attack and stroke by 32% compared with patients taking a 10 mg dose. Lipitor is a cholesterol-lowering therapy. “These findings show that more aggressive treatment with Lipitor in patients with kidney disease can help reduce the risk of heart attack and stroke and improve measures of kidney function,” said James Shepherd, a member of the study’s steering committee, in a statement. The study was funded by Pfizer and coordinated by an independent steering committee. The data was presented at the Annual Scientific Sessions of the American Heart Association
