Bayer AG’s CEO Werner Wenning said the pharma and chemical industry in Germany needs to be more competitive in order to maintain its place on the global stage.

‘The answer to the challenges of globalisation is competitiveness and not more regulation,’ said Wenning at the company’s autumn press conference in Leverkusen.

He added: ‘We need to see the opportunities – and not only the risks – of the technologies discover.’

Wenning added that it was crucial to have the backing from authorities that were open to innovation.
