GPs have been warned to be wary of ghost-written articles in medical journals following claims that the practice is on the increase.And with rising concerns about transparency and conflicts of interest, an upcoming Australian research code of conduct will deem it “expressly unacceptable” for doctors to put their names to articles that have been written mainly by others.MJA editor Dr Martin Van Der Weyden said his journal had recently unearthed two cases where medical writers had assisted with articles – a hay fever review and anticoagulation position statement.
