CALLS to limit the heavy reliance on drug company sponsorship of CPD activities could make the process unaffordable, a GP leader warns.A string of GP academics and ethicists last week raised concerns in the national press over the increasing role drug companies are playing in sponsoring and running CPD activities and how their advertising agendas might negatively impact on GP learning.However, the AMA has defended the merit of drug company sponsorship.While president Dr Mukesh Haikerwal agreed drug companies should not steer the content of activities, he warned that sponsorship was important to ensure all GPs could afford to comply with CPD requirements.The manner in which sponsorship is done should be in an unconditional manner so theres no intrusion on the…
