Pharmaceuticals: Restrictions in use and availability
2010 July 13
http://www.who.int/medicines/publications/restricted_list/en/index.html
Abstract:
The Pharmaceuticals: Restrictions in use and availability is a document
that provides biennial updates to the United Nations Consolidated List
of Products whose Consumption and/or Sale have been Banned, Withdrawn,
Severely Restricted or Not Approved by Governments – Pharmaceuticals (UN
General Assembly Resolutions 37/137, 1982; 38/149, 1983; 39/229, 1984;
44/226, 1989). Information contained in this document includes basic
drug product information, countries that have taken regulatory actions
towards the product, and the rationales for the restrictions.
The purpose of this document is to provide a consolidated list of
restricted pharmaceutical products that serve as a reference for the
pharmaceutical community, including drug regulators, and anyone
interested in the safe and rational use of drugs, to become better
informed about regulatory actions in different parts of the world.
Voluntary contribution from the member countries participating in the
WHO Programme for International Drug Monitoring (or, the WHO
‘Pharmacovigilance’ programme) is the main source of information for
this document. In addition, relevant information from other drug-related
documents issued by the World Health Organization, including the WHO
Drug Alerts, WHO Pharmaceuticals Newsletter and the quarterly
subscription journal WHO Drug Information is also included. It should be
noted that this information is neither exhaustive nor comprehensive. The
decisions taken by a limited number of governments on a specific product
may not be representative of the positions of other governments.
