Medical researchers receiving United States grants who have been paid more than $5,000 by drug companies like GlaxoSmithKline must publicly disclose the payments under rules proposed by regulators. Universities would have to list those “significant financial interests” on their Web sites once the rules take effect this year, Francis Collins, the director of the National Institutes of Health, said Thursday in a conference call with reporters. While current rules require researchers on United States-financed projects to notify their universities of financial ties that exceed $10,000, institutions do not have to post that information online.
