Did any change occurr in the NSAIDs prescription following the marketing of selective COX-2 inhibitors?
Giornale Italiano di Farmacia Clinica 2002; 16:(3):138-142
Abstract:
The great marketing success of the first two selective COX-2 inhibitors could be seen as the result of the important pressure on the preferential safety profile of the new drug class compared with the traditional NSAIDs. While data available in the literature are too scarce and often inconsistent to allow reliable judgment on the safety-efficacy balance between the two drug categories, careful analyses of the patterns of prescriptions in different context of care could be helpful for describing and understanding not only the prevalence of exposure, but also the criteria of choice. The data reflecting medical practice in a local health unit are proposed as a yield model of the such approach study.
