Abstract:

The criteria for over-the-counter drug status including safety, patient monitoring, and safe labeling, the types of medications under consideration for reclassification to OTC status, the market behavior of switched drugs, and the potential for pharmacists to establish a third class of drugs are discussed. This article qualifies for 2 hours of U.S. CE credit by the ACPE.
