Abstract:

The various voluntary and legal mechanisms by which a drug may be withdrawn from the market in the United States are discussed, including the role of the Food and Drug Administration, the pharmaceutical industry, and the news media, and the prescribing alternatives for physicians when a drug is withdrawn are discussed.
