Gannon K.
OTCs-shelf busters: analyzing nonprescription drug trends
Drug Top 1993 Jan 25; 137:34-36, 38-39, 41

Abstract:

The forces behind the growth of the over-the-counter (OTC) drug segment in the community pharmacy are outlined including the trend toward self-medication, brand leveraging and extensions, products for all types of patients, segmented products, reclassifications of prominent prescription drugs to OTC, and partnerships between drug companies. The concerns of pharmacists about exploding brand proliferation that they might be confused by all the new product lines, top-selling OTC drugs, and top selling prescription to OTC reclassifications are described.
