Implementation of a program for procurement of prescription drugs for indigent patients
ASHP Midyear Clinical Meeting 1995 Dec; 30:

Abstract:

The goal of this project was to establish and implement an interdisciplinary program that could identify and enroll eligible patients for prescription drug indigent programs provided by pharmaceutical manufacturers. The expected financial benefit from this program was estimated based on the anticipated patient population and drug expenditure. An interdisciplinary task force team with members from six departments was organized to develop the program. The pharmacy department has played a major role in operating the program by identifying applicable patients, assisting patients to enroll in the prescription drug indigent programs, and administering procured medications. At present, six patients have been enrolled in the program with an expected savings of $14,000.
