Abstract:
The impact of Australia’s regulations requiring mandatory cost-effectiveness evaluation of new drugs by the pharmaceutical industry prior to marketing is discussed, including their effects on the availability of new agents, restrictions on prescribing choices, and reduced funding for research as a consequence of increased marketing costs.
