Abstract:

The Jawaharlal Institute of Postgraduate Medical Education and Research has developed a video tape which simulates the promotion of a fictitious antibacterial by a team of detailers and a field manager to a doctor in family practice. The objective is to trigger discussion on various aspects of the physician-detailer interaction and to increase awareness of subtle promotional pressures and the ethical issues involved. Medical faculty members, medical professionals, residents and interns have reacted very positively to the video.
