In conjunction with an article published yesterday in Annals of Internal
Medicine, I am pleased to announced the existence of the Drug Industry
Document Archive, a new online archive of documents that describe drug
industry marketing.
The archive, hosted by the UCSF library and available at
http://dida.library.ucsf.edu, contains electronically indexed and
searchable documents obtained from litigation alleging off-label marketing
of gabapentin (Neurontin), and documents about the marketing of rofecoxib
(Vioxx). These documents include internal company correspondence, budget
spreadsheets, strategy reports, payment registers, and other material that
describes marketing practices. We hope to expand this archive to include
documents obtained from other litigation.
We encourage researchers, educators, and others to use the archive for
scholarly research and for educational programs about drug industry
marketing. People interested in this topic may also find it valuable just
to skim the contents. Several features of the archive facilitate either a
quick skim or in-depth study.
