Abstract:

At a recent meeting on drug promotion convened by the Council for International Organisations of Medical Sciences at the request of the World Health Assembly, industry and its critics found grounds for cooperation. The concept of coregulation with both the industry and government sharing the burden of control emerged clearly from the meeting. IFPMA assured the meeting that its code is fully consonant with the principles of the WHO Ethical Criteria. Perhaps the consultation lacked a sense of perspective as the developing world has to face many problems in order to assure that people have access to safe and effective medications.
