Abstract:

The international pharmaceutical market shows substantial regional differences in availability and promotion of drugs. In developing countries commercial interests may conflict with public health needs as a result of promotion of unsafe drugs, counterfeit drugs and the exports of inappropriate pharmaceuticals. The medical community has a role to play in the effort to achieve rational drug use.
