Abuse of brand names in era of essential drugs.
Lancet 1992 Mar 7; 339:(8793):623-4

Abstract:

Even after the Nigerian government issued a decree forcing drug manufacturers to restrict themselves to the Nigerian essential drugs list, expensive brand name drugs are more popular with consumers and physicians than their less expensive generic equivalents. The reason is the heavy promotion of brand name drugs.
