Abstract:

The neatest trick in politics is to pick a whipping boy who defies sympathy. En route to health-care reform, Mr and Mrs Clinton have found theirs in the pharmaceutical industry, conspicuously accusing it of heartless price gouging. Wall Street saw this coming when Clinton led the polls last summer, and since then drug shares have declined by about 17%.
