Sara Carlin Inquest: suicide after taking paroxetine (Paxil, Seroxat, Aropax)

An inquest is currently under way in Canada into the suicide of Sara Carlin whilst taking paroxetine (Paxil/Seroxat/Aropax). Bob Fiddaman has been documenting the inquest.

Bob Fiddaman reports:

“In 2008 I learned of yet another teenager lost to the antidepressant drug paroxetine sold by GSK with the trade name Paxil in North America, Seroxat in the UK and Aropax in Australia.
Since then, I have been campaigning for Sara to have her voice heard.
Sara’s inquest has been underway in Ontario for the past two weeks, an inquest that has seen the Carlin family endure much heartache and anguish as they have sat and listened to lawyers representing GlaxoSmithKline, lawyers for the doctor’s who prescribed Sara Paxil and even the Coroner’s Counsel. All are deflecting the blame on Sara’s behaviour rather than Paxil.
On May 6, 2007, Sara Carlin, a beautiful 18-year-old girl with everything to live for, grabbed a piece of electrical wiring, fashioned a crude noose and hanged herself in the basement of her parents house while under the influence of the antidepressant drug Paxil. Paxil/Seroxat/Aropax is an antidepressant documented by international drug regulatory agencies as causing worsening depression and suicide particularly in children and young adults.
Please help inform others of the risks of these drugs. Forward these links to everyone you know.
RIP Sara Alison Carlin

This inquest has been Glaxo & Friends Vs The Carlin family - it is truly shocking that from day one the Coroner’s Court have tried to blame everything and anything on Sara’s death other than Paxil.”

There is no sin in being wrong. The sin is in our unwillingness to examine our own beliefs, and in believing that our authorities cannot be wrong. Far from creating cynics, such a story is likely to foster a healthy and creative skepticism, which is something quite different from cynicism.”
