Human side of rising drug prices
National Association of Retail Druggists Journal 1990 Jan; 112:20-23

Abstract:

Hearings before the Senate Aging Committee on escalating prescription drug costs are discussed. The findings of the committee report that prescription drug costs have risen more rapidly than any other category of Medicaid spending, industry prices their products as high as the market will bear rather than setting prices that just recoup their investment in research and development, and many drugs are therapeutically interchangeable. Multitier or differential pricing and group purchasing are also discussed.
