Third parties could help pharmacy
American Druggist 1990 Jan; 201:12
Abstract:
Potential positive effects of health care cost reductions by third party health benefit programs on future pharmacy practice are discussed. It was proposed that third parties could purchase pharmaceuticals directly from manufacturers and use their influence to end discriminatory pricing. Pharmacists, while still obtaining drugs through wholesalers and dispensing the products, could concentrate on counseling and compliance monitoring, services which could lower overall health care costs. Pharmacists would receive fees for handling and clinical services.
