Curing Medicaid's ills: two plans propose to do just that
Massachusetts Pharmacist 1990 Jul-Aug; 2:10-11
Abstract:
Two proposals that may alleviate some of the huge costs of Medicaid, the Pharmaceutical Access and Prudent Purchasing Act and Merck Sharp & Dohme’s Equal Access to Medicines Plan, are described. The proposed law is designed to force pharmaceutical manufacturers to control their spending while simultaneously giving state Medicaid programs an opportunity to receive the same low prices as other health care organizations. The plan promises to offer Merck Sharp & Dohme’s lowest prices to Medicaid plans in return for including the company’s drugs on Medicaid formularies.
