Third-party pharmacy: year of new perspectives
National Association of Retail Druggists Journal 1990 Oct; 112:56-59
Abstract:
The events in third party pharmacy during 1989 are discussed. The efforts of companies to find options and strategies to contain pharmaceutical costs by establishing subsidiaries to organize and administer health care provider networks that are then used by employees of the coalition’s corporate members and bringing pharmacies in-house are described. Mail order pharmacy, the patient’s freedom of choice of pharmacy, the attempt by various branches and members of state and federal governments to compel pharmaceutical manufacturers to provide discount prices to Medicaid beneficiaries and McKesson’s outright purchase of PCS are also discussed.
