Market forces that have helped to intensify price competition in pharmaceuticals, including the growth of managed care, generic competition, and government legislation, as well as the pharmaceutical industry’s response by realignment, restructuring, and merger and acquisition activity, are presented; risks of new market dynamics are addressed.
