Treating dysentery with metronidazole in Pakistan.

Abstract:
Pharmaceutical industry advertising in Pakistan promoting metronidazole (Flagyl) as empirical therapy for dysentery in children, which conflicts with World Health Organization (WHO) guidelines for the use of antiparasitic agents, is reported, and the need to educate health professionals regarding appropriate prescribing for dysentery is discussed.
