Abstract:
The results of a telephone interview conducted by Schering Laboratories, in an effort to evaluate written patient information required by the federal government in the year 2000, are briefly summarized. The results indicated that consumers are receiving written drug information from pharmacies at least 70% of the time, depending on the setting. The greatest proportion of respondents (42%) had their new prescriptions filled at pharmacy chain stores. Written information was supplied with both new and refill prescriptions. Overall, about 16% of the written information was prepared by drug manufacturers, and three-fourths of the information was prepared by the pharmacies. When asked if the information they received from pharmacies had filled their needs, 83% of the patients surveyed reported that they were extremely satisfied.
