Community pharmacy pricing suit dismissed
American Journal of Health System Pharmacy 1999 Jan 15; 56:113

Abstract:

It was announced that community pharmacies’ class-action lawsuit against 4 drug manufacturers and 6 wholesalers was dismissed by a federal district judge. Thousands of community pharmacies nationwide, both chains and independents, sued manufacturers and wholesalers in 1994, charging price-fixing that denied the pharmacies discounts on prescription drugs that are offered to managed care organizations, hospitals, and others.

What these howls of outrage and hurt amount to is that the medical profession is distressed to find its high opinion of itself not shared by writers of [prescription] drug advertising. It would be a great step forward if doctors stopped bemoaning this attack on their professional maturity and began recognizing how thoroughly justified it is.
