Abstract:

A proposed rule by the Health Care Financing Administration that may drive oncology patients from physicians’ offices to hospitals is discussed; if the rule passes, oncologists will be unable to change any markup on outpatient drugs they routinely provide to patients treated in their offices. The negative impact of managed care on the introduction and marketing of new oncology agents is also discussed.
