Abstract:

Various reasons for double-digit growth in prescription drug sales, including the coverage of pharmaceuticals by managed care organizations, successful new drug products, direct-to-consumer (DTC) advertising, and the pharmacological treatment of human immunodeficiency virus infection (HIV)/ acquired immunodeficiency syndrome (AIDS), and several pivotal issues that will affect the future sales growth of pharmaceuticals are discussed.
