Conlan MF.
In-your-face pharmacy: will the boom in Rx ads aimed at consumers continue?
Drug Topics 1996 Jul; 140:92-94, 97-98

Abstract:

The amount of money spent on direct-to-consumer advertising more than doubled between 1993 and 1995 and within two years could top $1.2 billion. In 1995, 50 prescription-only drugs were advertised in consumer media compared to 17 in 1992. Arguments for and against DTCA are presented and the role of the Food and Drug Administration in regulation this form of promotion is discussed.
