The author outlines the advertising policy of the Canadian Medical Association Journal: all ads have to be precleared by the Pharmaceutical Advertising Advisory Board and neither the CMAJ’s advertising representatives nor the pharmaceutical companies know the editorial content of the upcoming issues for which advertising space is available.
