Activities of pharmaceutical industry representatives at a major teaching hospital.
Can J Hosp Pharm 1996; 49:256-260
Abstract:
There are about 4000 sales representatives in Canada which means that each Canadian physician can expect to receive about 25 visits per year. After the implementation of new policies governing visits of sales representatives, their activities in a major teaching hospital were examined over a 5 month period. 20% of visits were to teaching rounds and 10% were devoted to hosting an inservice including lunch. Cardiac drugs and anti-infective agents were the most commonly detailed drug groups reflecting hospital expenditures on these drug classes.
