Pharmaceutical promotion and physician requests to hospital formularies
JAMA 1994; 272:355
Abstract:
The authors have three reasons for rejecting the suggestion that drug promotion benefits patients: 1) there are no data to show that drug promotion by manufacturers improves the treatment or outcomes of patients; 2) there are no data to indicate that drug promotion to doctors reduces the cost of care; 3) physicians should not learn about drugs from those who stand to benefit from their choices.
