Regulation of drug advertising—a violation of free speech?

Abstract:

Opponents of the recent efforts by the United States Food and Drug Administration to define a scheme of regulation for pharmaceutical advertising and promotion have argues their case on commercial and medical grounds. The perceived threat to manufacturers’ ability to market new therapies has been linked with concerns about the effects on public health of restricting the flow of scientific information.
