Consensus conferences as drug promotion.
Lancet 1993 Feb 6; 341:(8841):368
Abstract:
The regional meetings described by Sheldon et al., were not “consensus conferences†but were aimed at obtaining a national perspective on the importance of high density lipoprotein-cholesterol. Programs were planned in conjunction with the local chairman and speakers and speakers were free to adapt and use the slides as they saw fit. The meeting strictly accorded with guidelines from the Association of the British Pharmaceutical Industry. The meeting did not promote gemfibrozil as Sheldon claims.
