Durham J.
Pharmaceutical promotion in New Zealand—a view from general practice
1990 Mar

Abstract:

This paper focuses on promotional activity directed either at the individual general practitioner or through postgraduate organziations. A number of New Zealand professional organizations have made statements regarding interactions with the industry and these are reviewed. There is a discussion about journal advertisements, sales representatives, symposia sponsored by pharmaceutical companies and continuing medical education. Most general practitioners are not concerned about these issues.

There is no sin in being wrong. The sin is in our unwillingness to examine our own beliefs, and in believing that our authorities cannot be wrong. Far from creating cynics, such a story is likely to foster a healthy and creative skepticism, which is something quite different from cynicism.”
